As we start of the school year, our district attendance officer has pulled together some resources for parents regarding school attendance / absenteeism and the effects on students wellbeing. Study after study have shown that absenteeism in students can lead to poor academic performance and social disengagement as well as effects later in life such as poverty and chronic health issues. Many parents don't have an understanding of the implications of absenteeism at the different school levels. Here is a link to some information for elementary student parents and for parents of students in the JH HS . A wealth of information can also be found on the "Attendance Works" website. This websire also has some tools and tips that you as a parent can use to help your student engage in positive attendance habits. Our district attendance officer, Stacy Crook is readily available to help parents with the information they need regarding attendance. She can be reached by email at scrook@alexanderschools.org or by phone at 740-698-8831 ext 405.
